Freelance content writer (January 2021 – present)
I am a freelance content writer specialising in the travel and food niches, but with experience writing about a wide variety of lifestyle topics. I have ghost-written over 150 blog posts and articles for numerous clients, and have published work under my own name. All posts and articles are written with SEO best practice in mind.
Freelance proofreader and editor (2019 – present)
As a proofreader and editor, I have edited over 250 documents to a high standard, checking for grammar, spelling and consistency issues. Examples of texts edited include dissertations and journal articles, screenplays, poetry collections, business websites, novels and short stories, and product descriptions.
Proofreading Academy’s ‘Becoming a Proofreader’ course (2019)
To gain further editorial practice, I took and passed the ‘Becoming a Proofreader’ course run by the Proofreading Academy. The course specialises in academic proofreading (theses, journal articles, dissertations and essays) but also includes creative writing and business writing modules.
Editorial assistant (April 2018 – October 2019)
I worked for 18 months as an editorial assistant for TV chef Jamie Oliver. Working closely with the editor-in-chief, I was instrumental in the publication 2019’s Veg, 2018’s Friday Night Feast Cookbook, and the republication of Jamie’s first five books as Penguin Modern Cookery Classics. I also edited and proofread numerous recipes for the website, and I proofread and approved all content that was syndicated for publication in magazines.
Editorial intern (February 2018 – April 2018)
A two-month editorial internship working for a restaurant guidebook and website. Aspects of my role included inputting information into a content management system and proofreading text to be published on the website and guidebook to ensure that a high quality was maintained.
Master’s degree in the Culture of the European Renaissance, University of Warwick (2016 – 2017)
A master of arts degree focusing on the literature, art and history of the European Renaissance. For part of the degree, I wrote a 16,000-word dissertation on a poem by the Elizabethan poet Thomas Nashe.
Bachelor’s degree in Classics, University of Warwick (2013 – 2016)
A first-class bachelor of arts degree in Classics (Latin and Ancient Greek literature, and ancient history). As coursework, I wrote a 10,000-word dissertation on the representation of Ariadne in the poetry of Ovid.
